Mary grew up in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, and attended Indiana University, where she received a  Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Minors in Spanish, History, and Public and Environmental Affairs.

After graduating from college, she moved to Arizona and began a career in social services. She served as a Bureau Chief in the Victim Services Division at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office while she completed her Master’s Degree in Public Administration. While working in social services, she realized how the criminal process treated defendants.

She then moved back to the Midwest, where she received her Juris Doctorate. While in law school to be a criminal defense lawyer, she served as President of Equal Justice Works and worked in an elderly clinic. 

Mary became an attorney in 2006 and opened Higdon Law in 2011. With her experience in social work, serving as the Deputy Prosecutor in Monroe County, IN, and as a criminal defense attorney, Mary is well-equipped to defend you and will work tirelessly to help you receive a favorable result.
